Client: International energy company
Asset type: Dual stack drillship
Location: Gulf of America
Brief summary of scope: Our client requested real-time monitoring (RTM) oversight of soak testing activities prior to BOP deployment. ModuSpec surveyors were on board to witness and assist with testing as well as communicate RTM observations to contractor subsea personnel.
Results: A Teams channel was set up with participation from offshore and onshore client personnel, offshore and onshore contractor personnel, offshore and onshore ModuSpec personnel, and RTM personnel. A soak test acceptance criteria was agreed upon by all parties before soak testing commenced.
During the course of soak testing:
- Several leaks were identified by the RTM team and troubleshot by the offshore team.
- Several observations noted by the RTM team led to the wellhead connector regulator being replaced as well as an annular open shuttle valve being rebuilt.
- In one instance, the RTM team identified that the stack line-up was not correct prior to commencing soak testing with an annular in block instead of the intended open, the rig team corrected this and then continued on with testing.
- As each hydraulic circuit’s soak test was completed successfully, RTM confirmed with a picture of the applicable circuits’ trend lines confirming a good test.
The BOP was then deployed and tested on the wellhead successfully with no leaks during a several month drilling operation.
Client feedback: The client appreciated the thoroughness of both ModuSpec’s offshore and onshore teams in assessing soak testing results. The client team also appreciated having visibility of real-time comms as the offshore and onshore teams worked through various test line-up and troubleshooting steps. In addition, the client valued having each completed test line-up documented in the trend snip provided by ModuSpec RTM team.
